As of October 7th, soybean rust has been reported in many counties throughout the southeast states, and has recently been reported in North Carolina and in Tennessee. Rust is expected to spread in the south and possibly move north until frost.

Soybean harvest has begun in Indiana and the majority of soybeans are approaching R6 or later. Soybeans are most susceptible to soybean rust infection from R1 to R5. Soybeans that are at R6 or later will not experience economic losses should soybean rust appear in the next few weeks. We will continue to monitor sentinel plots and additional soybean fields to detect rust if it appears in Indiana. At this time, however, there is no rust present and no need for management in Indiana. The most current findings and recommendations for management can be found on the web at http://sbr.ipmpipe.org.
